Happy 17th Birthday, YouTube!

Yesterday marked 17 years of getting lost down the YouTube rabbit hole! It feels like a great time to reminisce on the videos that impacted me more than I’m proud to admit.

Shoes

Shoes by LiamKyleSullivan was (who am I kidding, still is) a personality trait of mine. I’m so thrilled to see he is still making videos to this day!

Muffins

While we’re talking about LiamKyleSullivan, we can’t forget about his equally iconic Muffins. This video somehow made me into the person I am today.

Charlie The Unicorn Goes To Candy Mountain

I can’t even tell you how many people I must have annoyed while trying to imitate this video. candy hasn’t done much on YouTube since, but what more can we ask for?

Friday

Don’t act like it’s not catchy! Rebecca Black had gold with this one & I LOVE to see her thriving to this day! It doesn’t look like Patrice Wilson is making bizarre music videos with teen girls anymore & that’s GOT to be for the best. As much as I got joy from watching all of them, you couldn’t help but feel like something wasn’t completely right with all of that.

Here It Goes Again

OK Go was onto something with this one! Another catchy song and a video that makes it impossible to look away. I can hardly run on a treadmill, so I’ve got the utmost respect for these gentlemen. I imagine a lot of knees were skinned in the making of this video.

Antoine Dodson

I was out here at 18 years old SCREAMING “hide your kids, hide your wife.” Who gave me the right? Antoine Dodson, that’s who! The news clip is iconic itself, but the song posted by schmoyoho took it to a whole other level.

Chocolate Rain

I’m going to need to see some more Chocolate Rain love in 2022! How has this not been sampled yet? The last video TayZonday posted was something called Alien Christmas about a year ago, so there’s that.

What are some of your favorite YouTube videos? Let’s bond in the comments!
